UberEATS food photo shoots are exercises in efficiency with constraints. It’s a gig with a style guide requiring the photos be shot in a 5:4 aspect ratio like an 8×10 inch print.
Get in there quick, find and set up the space to shoot and be ready for the food to appear. Restaurants can be dark places with little window light, so additional lighting is often required. They’ll present three to five menu items to shoot in a consistent style, then I put it all together to produce the hero.
Shot from above, it includes all the previous food items, sometimes with other drinks and ingredients added to complete the composition. The change in shooting angle from 45 degrees to above sometimes necessitates a change in lighting, too.
These are my still life compositions, produced under pressure – time is money!
